Planes, Trains, and Golf Carts

M: Well this post went out without my approval so there are some errors and things I would like to add.

It's been a little since our last real post. For this we are sorry. Let us recap our past week and a half...

Wed. Feb. 8:
At 5am the alarm went off and woke us for our 8am flight to Charleston, SC for my family's annual vacation. Upon landing, we discovered the weather along the east coast was getting quite cool from Maine to Miami (this will come back to haunt us). SC felt this as well and temperatures were hovering in the 50s and 60s. My parents picked us up, took us to the house, and it was off to the beach a couple of blocks away.

Where we collected shells...

And little crabs....
Crustaceans from the ocean, not to be confused with any other types of "little crabs"

Thurs. Feb 9:
By now my whole family had arrived. M and I spent the day with my mom doing some grocery shopping while some of the others were playing golf with my dad. At night, we gathered for dinner at a nearby restaurant on the golf course.

Fri. Feb. 10:
Up at 10 and off to Drayton Hall, a historic property owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, for which my dad works. It's an old plantation in Charleston that's been preserved in it's original condition. www.draytonhall.org

We then went into Charleston and walked the historic neighborhoods and had lunch. After our day of historic touring, M went to the driving range with my brother Aaron, and I capped it off by throwing the baseball around with my brother Elliot on the beach.

Then sis-in-law Christina joined us for sunset.

The big event of the night was cooking dinner. We all had a course. M and I had desert, and appropriately for South Carolina, it was Peach Cobbler. I spent most of my time trying to get a fire going, so M gets all of the credit for a great Peach Cobbler.
Most means all his time except the two second it took to put it in the oven.

After dinner the gals were nice enough to take care of the bulk of the dishes while dad laid out his future cabin designs for us boys.
He was nice to include me in the cleaning up, but I actually sat in on the design discussion. Thanks Bridget, Caroline and Christina!

Sat. Feb 11:
We were up at the crack of dawn for a Yeater Golf Classic. If the weather would hold up. It was Aaron, Elliot, Wyatt, and Christina vs. Me, M, Mom and Dad (sis-in-law Caroline didn't partake).

In the end we lost in the bestball competition. However, M was the ONLY player to par an entire whole herself. None of my shots were needed :(
I think you mean hole, I thought you were an English major?

At night we would wind down with a relaxing dinner. We all got dressed up. We'd love to show you a picture, however the waitress who took the pic for us, must have had too much coffee, cause the pic is all blurry.

Sun. Feb 12:
Due to the snow storm in NY and Boston nearly all of our flights were interrupted. Here's Wyatt waiting it out in the airport reading Harry Potter.

We unfortunately got rerouted to Atlanta, where we learned our flight to NY was cancelled and we would have to wait TWO DAYS! So we hung out in a Holiday Inn for two days until we were finally able to get home.
Jared was lucky enough to have most of his clothes in his carry on. I on the other hand had to wear the same clothes for two days. However, there was detergent in the nice little emergency toiletry bag provided by the airline.

After that it was back to work. A vacation that came a close a bit too soon.

HotLanta...More like 23 degrees.

So it was snowing like crazy in NY. And we were able to enjoy it...all the way from Atlanta.

We've been in South Carolina for my families winter vacation, and our return flights were interrupted by the 20 million inches of snow that fell in NYC. So we are currently stuck in Atlanta until tomorrow (Tuesday) when we can fly home. So bear with us as we make our way home. We'll try and do a post from the weekend (since we now have a lot of time to kill) but not sure if we can upload pics with our available wiring.

We'll be back around noon on Tues. and maybe there will still be enough snow left for us to make snow angels in Central Park.

Hotel JMNYC

Again, a week with little excitement. But it was all in preparation for my friend Mac's visit to NY! He is currently attending law school at Georgetown, and decided this would be a good weekend to come up visit NY for the first time. In the process, we tested our apartment as living quarters for a third party, and actually it worked pretty well (hinting that our place is open for guests).

Mac came into town late Thursday night. We went out for a quick drink in our neighborhood and then headed to bed. M and I both had to work Friday, so Mac tooled around NY, went for a jog in Central Park, and then we all met up at my office after work, where we snapped a few rooftop pictures of the Empire State Building.

From there we did a quick little tour of some other NY destinations. We hit Times Square...

Radio City Music Hall...

And Rockefeller Center...

We ended at Grand Central Station and took the train out of midtown from there. We headed to the Lower East Side where we (exhausted from all of the walking...apparently my "it's only a couple blocks" mantra leads to miles of walking), grabbed a drink and just hung out and relaxed.

A topic of conversation was...dinner. We decided on Italian, so off to Little Italy it was, where we filled our empty stomachs. Sorry no pics of our meal.

Mac's friend Dan was in town for job interview, so he met up with us, for our next adventure. But in gaining one person for our evening, we lost another. M, wasn't feeling too well, and decided to head back home around midnight. But she missed a lot of fun at the Bulgarian Culture Center (aka Bulgarian Disco). Yes...I said Bulgarian Disco. Basically a bar/club filled with really sweaty hipsters who've been bobbing all night to the sounds of bulgarian inspired techno...that's the best I can describe it. You'll have to see and experience it for yourselve.

Saturday we split up a little. M stayed home and read, and then went to a yarn store. I went to the batting cage for baseball practice, and Mac met up with Dan at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But we all congregated for dinner back in the midtown area, prior to going to...our first Broadway show! We got tickets to The Producers, the very funny and entertaining Mel Brooks musical at the St. James Theater.

A great weekend, and we hope to have Mac come visit again soon. And likewise plan to go to DC in the near future to crash in his living room.

This week we have a short week at work, and then are off to South Carolina on Wed. morning for a little vacation that my family is doing. We're excited for some time relax with family (well, my family at least), and we're hopeful for warm weather on the ocean, but I looked at a forecast, and it was not any warmer than NY.
