Happy Easter

This weekend wasn't too exciting. We stayed in a relaxed a lot. M was nice enough to let me watch all three Twins games over the weekend (they were playing the Yankees so it's the only time I get to see them on TV!).

Saturday I had baseball games again. It was a beautiful day. 75 and sunny. The games took up most of my day, but M had a nice day tooling around NY. She bought some clothes and did some shopping at the Farmer's Market in Union Square...

Sunday we woke up in no particular rush. We had decided Saturday that we would celebrate the holiday weekend with brunch. So off to Park Slope we went. We took the advice of the Zagat guide and brunched at the 12th Street Grille. It was very good. And also eating brunch there was the main female character from Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I think Kathryn Erbe is her name. We recognized her right away.

After brunch M got an ice cream cone as we headed home.

4 for 7

The weekend brought us rain all day Friday and Saturday. In fact, I barely got out of bed Saturday, and M read like 5 books or something. But we were very content to do absolutely nothing.

For as relaxed as I let my body be on Saturday, I pretty much killed it on Sunday. M was kind enough to make a great breakfast in the morning, but by 10:45 I was out the door on my way to our opening day for my baseball team. Here's some of my team...

And here's a shot of me at bat...

The day went well for me. I played out field the whole time. And at the plate I went 2 for 3 in the first game and 2 for 4 in the second game! Don't worry about keeping your own notebook of stats. I'll be sure to update you on my progress throughout the year...unless of course I started doing poorly...at which point I'll conveniently forget to post about that.

By the time I got home, my body just completely ached. My hands still ache as I type this.

But while I was playing baseball, M had a nice day at home. She went for a walk along the promenade, read her book, watched a movie. I would have loved to have her come to the game, but it was kind of chilly, so I am glad she had a nice day without being stuck outside the whole time.

All's Well That Ends Well

I was a bit too excited for the start of the baseball season for the Twins. I spent most of my day searching to find an appropriate venue to watch the game. Our first choice, we found upon arriving, was no longer in operation. A sign of things to come(also shows what great research I had done). Then, after taking an incorrect train, making us well late for the start of the game, the night was headed in the wrong direction.

Eventually we found a place in Tribecca called Buster's Garage. Your typical sports bar that claims to be the "Home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Georgia Bulldogs". I was afraid they'd laugh us out of the bar when I asked them to turn the Twins vs. Blue Jays game on the TV. To my surprise, and a rare stroke of good fortune, they did not.

We ordered some nachos to start. Then a burger for me and a sandwhich for M. It was quite sub par and made the course of the game even less enjoyable. The Twins then went on to lose 6-3 and we left feeling cheated out of a good meal and a good game.

But on the way home, we did come across a woman walking her 3-month old pug. M was quite excited, and I have to say, it was very cute.

Which leads me to the moral of this story, I think it was Aesop that said it: After watching a crappy baseball game, in a crappy bar, find a cute dog on the street to cheer you up.

Spring Forward

Weather was beautiful this weekend. Low 70s. Sunny. No wind. I spent my Saturday at baseball practice for most of the day. M had to work. I was wiped out and ended up napping in the evening. M went out with some friends though.

Sunday we slept extra long...in part because of setting our clocks ahead an hour. But we still had plenty of daylight to enjoy, so we headed out around 4 and had lunch at Burrito Bar & Kitchen.

Then it was off to Prospect Park where we walked around and laid in the grass trying to spot as many Pugs as we could.
